YouTube Sets New Video Time Limits

YouTube has become the biggest video site to search for answers and 'how to' videos for the visual learners who want answers quickly. So on Friday when YouTube announced it is increasing once again the length of video that you can upload it could be seen by some as a bonus who have a lot to say - or for other browsers who just want the bullet point version without the 'sales fluff' a real disappointment.

YouTube has become the biggest video site to search for answers and ‘how to’ videos for the visual learners who want answers quickly. So on Friday when YouTube announced it is increasing once again the length of video that you can upload it could be seen by some as a bonus who have a lot to say – or for other browsers who just want the bullet point version without the ‘sales fluff’ a real disappointment.

For years YouTube limited their videos to no longer than 10 minutes, then in July they allowed the length to be 15 minutes. But for some current owners of YouTube Channels they will receive the privilege of having no time limit at all. YouTube’s commented on “allowing selected users with a history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines and our copyright rules to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes.” Not sure if you wil need to request permission or not – those details are not available yet…

But one thing is for sure, we can expect over a period of time more ‘sales length pitches’ and less quick and simple ‘how to’ videos in the searches of YouTube. Video is becoming more and more popular as a form of education and information so on the upside if you are a business wanting to do more business via Social Media Video Methods then YouTube’s new time limits will be perfect to help build branding and credibility – as long as the video’s are informative and engaging – a mix many businesses tend to compromise one or the other.
